IHG Adelaide Famil

Many people have told me lately of the fantastic changes that are happening in Adelaide and I was fortunate to be able to see this for myself recently, courtesy of a fabulous famil to Adelaide with the IHG Group.

Adelaide has a real buzz happening! The spectacular new developments to the hallowed grounds of the Adelaide Oval, with the paedestrian bridge across the Torrens River connecting the Convention Centre and the 5 Star Intercontinental Hotel, turn this area into an ideal precinct for large conferences and events.

IMG_1421IMG_1420Our site inspection of the Adelaide Convention Centre revealed the plans for their impressive extensions which will be completed in two stages by 2017. While at the Centre we peeked a preview of set up for the Variety Club Annual Ball being held later that night on Friday 13th. What a sight that was with tables set for 2000 guests and themed with silver Casper centrepieces, the original Adelaide Show ghost train, a witches cauldron and a haunted church.

We experienced exceptional hospitality from the IHG group and enjoyed sampling the accommodation and delicious food at both the Intercontinental Hotel and the Crowne Plaza Adelaide. The rooftop conference floor at the Crowne Plaza is sleek and functional and the Intercontinental octagonal ballroom a surprisingly large yet intimate space.

A magical day was spent in the Adelaide Hills, where we sampled handmade cheeses by Udder Delights at the quaint little village of Hahndorf, a perfect location for day trips for conference delegates and guests. Not far away at the Lane Restaurant we were taken for a tour of their winery before enjoying a delicious lunch. Yum !

One of the highlights of the famil was the transfer by fluorescent cyclos to the National Wine Centre in Adelaide. This is a lovely venue which DC Conferences has used a number of times for our clients but it was great to see it again and to test their latest innovation ‘Wined Bar’. This is Australia’s largest tasting room experience with visitors able to sample 120 different wines thanks to the installation of state-of-the-art Enomatic wine preservation and dispensing machines. How lucky to have the chance to sample St Henri and compare it to a Grange!! I’m coming back again for this.

It was all over too soon and yet we felt like we packed so much into such a short time.

Thank you so much IHG for this great experience and Adelaide here we come!!
